Advanced Certificate in Accounting Courses (ACIA)

The Advanced Certificate in Accounting Program (ACIA), instituted in 1995, has proven extremely successful in providing accounting technicians with practical knowledge and experience vital to the growth and strength of CA firms. ACIA courses use a “distributed learning model” offered exclusively over the internet.

These ACIA courses will be offered on an individual basis through the Professional Development program. Normally available only to ACIA registered students, we are offering the following three ACIA titles in the September to November term to any employee of a CA firm.

  • ACA020 Accounting Information Systems
    Exam date: November 22, 2010

The objective of this course is to provide the student with an introduction to the internet, and then focus on the practical instruction of computerizing accounting records. Each week, the student will construct, from scratch, a new client file using a computerized accounting information software package. The student will be given practical situations where they must take raw source data and organize it to provide informative reports. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have the ability to set up, input and provide reasonable reports on some of the more complex client situations that a small public accounting firm may encounter.

  • ACA050 Review & Compilation Engagements
    Exam date: November 23, 2010

The objective of this course is to provide the student with a thorough understanding of the CICA Handbook in relation to preparing review and compilation engagements for clients. The student will be required to understand the CICA handbook recommendations in this area as well as many of the professional standards required by a CA in public practice. Upon successful completion of this course the student will be knowledgeable with many of the professional standards applicable to Chartered Accountants, as well as being able to plan and adequately complete review and compilation engagements.

  • ACA060 Audit Engagements
    Exam Date: November 24, 2010

The objective of this course is to provide the student with a thorough understanding of the CICA Handbook in relation to preparing an audit engagement - focusing on smaller business audits. The student will be required to understand the CICA Handbook recommendations in this area. Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to understand and plan small business audits, and adequately complete many sections of a financial statement audit for a small client. The student will also gain knowledge into various audit issues relevant to Not-For-Profit Organizations, special reporting, legal and real estate audits.
