The CA profession has recently undertaken a detailed analysis of the
core knowledge and skills expected of CAs by business, government, and
the public. Working with many members, clients and employers, many clear
expectations - or competencies - of our profession have been identified.
These competencies are laid out in The CA Competency Map. The Map is
now being used as the basis for our new qualification process, and will
be used in the continuing development and enhancement of our CPD Program.
The CA Competency Map provides a profile of the CA profession, not
of the individual CA. It can, however, prove useful in shaping your
own CPD opportunities to meet your career goals. As a first step, this
year we have identified our courses into the six specific competency
areas of The CA Competency Map:
Assurance (Auditing)
- Competencies related to statutory and regulatory audit/assurance requirements as well as broader validation and assurance services.
Finance - Corporate Finance
- Competencies related to financial management, financial strategy, financial decision-making, and personal financial planning. This includes seminars that are listed in topic areas such as general management, human resource management, strategy, business planning and practice management.
Finance - Wealth Management
- Competencies related to financial management, financial strategy, financial decision-making, and personal financial planning. This includes seminars that are listed in topic areas such as general management, human resource management, strategy, business planning and practice management.
Information Technology
- Competencies related to the evaluation of an entity’s information needs and the development and use of information technology in achieving its strategic and operational goals and objectives.
Organizational Effectiveness, Control, and Risk Management
- Competencies related to the evaluation and development of an entity’s ability to enhance its decision-making and maximize its organizational performance, including its governance, structure, policies, systems and resources. This would include seminars that are listed in topic areas such as general management, human resource management, strategy, business planning and practice management.
Performance Measurement - Financial Reporting
- Competencies related to the evaluation, development and interpretation of an entity’s financial and non-financial information that measures and enhances an entity’s organizational performance. This competency has been split into two categories: PM-Financial Reporting, which include seminars listed in accounting and PM-Management Reporting that fall into the topic area of balance scorecard and performance tools.
Performance Measurement - Management Reporting
- Competencies related to the evaluation, development and interpretation of an entity’s financial and non-financial information that measures and enhances an entity’s organizational performance. This competency has been split into two categories: PM-Financial Reporting, which include seminars listed in accounting and PM-Management Reporting that fall into the topic area of balance scorecard and performance tools.
Professional Skills
- Includes courses in complementary professional competencies that will help you continue to enhance your professional effectiveness. This includes some topics that are in the general management topic listing like communication, time management, career planning, and leadership seminars. For the purposes of the brochure sections – these topics are included under Management.
Taxation
- Competencies related to taxation planning, compliance and reporting for various entities.
