PD Requirements for Students

Once a CA student has written the UFE, they will be eligible to take Professional Development that must be completed prior to their admission to membership in the Institute. Students require thirty-five hours of PD consisting of the following components:

  • Students MUST TAKE the following two courses offered by the ICABC:

    You and Your CA Designation (7 credit hours) and
    Effective Management Skills (7 credit hours)

  • Students may choose from one of the approved soft-skills courses offered by the ICABC (7 credit hours each).

Note: For CASB students outside the Lower Mainland, you may take the following seminars in lieu of the soft-skills options held in Vancouver.

Communicating Under Pressure
Leading People Towards Peak Performance
Presentation Power
Time Management: The Essentials of Productivity Skills

  • You will also need to complete the additional 14 hours through either your firm's in-house training (if applicable), or through the ICABC's PD Program. They must cover topics in the general fields of Financial Accounting and Reporting, Auditing and Professional Practice, Managerial Accounting and Control, Taxation, Valuations, Insolvency, Management, Ethics, Information Technology, or any of the soft-skills seminars listed above.  Note that on-line courses and seminars on audio CDs ARE NOT eligible for completion of these requirements.
